Motorcyclist Killed in Commerce Township Crash
A tragic accident claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Thursday afternoon in Commerce Township, Oakland County, as confirmed by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
Gary Michael Kingins, 57, of Saginaw, was riding his 2017 Kawasaki Vulcan 1700 motorcycle west on Sleeth Road near Marcello Drive around 4:30 p.m. when he collided with a 2024 Ford Edge. The Ford Edge was driven by a 60-year-old woman from Farmington Hills. The collision occurred as the woman attempted a left turn onto Marcello Drive from eastbound Sleeth Road, leading to the motorcycle striking the car at the intersection.
Kingins was immediately transported to a nearby hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries. Investigators noted that Kingins was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The Farmington Hills woman, who was wearing a seatbelt, received treatment at the scene for her injuries.
Authorities have stated that alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
