Congratulations to Chef DeVoria Simmons from Southfield High School for the Arts and Technology
Giroux Pappas Trial Attorneys, a personal injury law firm serving clients in Michigan is pleased to announce the Exceptional Educator for February is Chef DeVoria Simmons, a skilled chef who shares her culinary skills and passion with Southfield high school students. Since 2014, she has taught the Hospitality and Culinary Services state-approved Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at Southfield High School for the Arts and Technology and at the Dorsey Culinary Academy. Her students respect and love her passion and dedication to teaching.

Southfield High School for the Arts and Technology will receive $1000 from Giroux Pappas in honor of Chef DeVoria Simmons. Bob Giroux, Attorney, and Founding Partner expressed, “Learning about how Chef Simmons applies skills she gained professionally and translates them for students is amazing. DeVoria Simmons was born in Detroit and her dream was to have her own restaurant. DeVoria enrolled in the culinary program at Oakland Community College in Farmington Hills. She traveled to Texas, Chicago and New York to hone her skills as a chef and later became an educator in the culinary field. Chef Simmons defines her passion for food by teaching and sharing her craft with others. Since 2014, she has taught the Hospitality and Culinary Services state-approved Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at Southfield High School for the Arts and Technology and at the Dorsey Culinary Academy. Her students respect and love her passion and dedication to teaching. Chef Simmons is an active member of the Black Culinary Association and the American Culinary Federation.
Giroux Pappas created the Exceptional Educator Program and partners with WXYZ to gather nominations for educators in the area that go above and beyond for their students. Giroux Pappas launched the program in January 2022 to give back to the community it serves and has recognized and donated to a teacher each month since.
